The question that decides an order is also the hardest to answer from a product page: how much hair do I actually need? This guide gives you the numbers we publish for each method and explains how to read them against your own head of hair. If you have not settled on a method yet, start with our method guide.
Why grams matter more than pieces
Weight is the only number that compares across methods. A pack of Premium Tape-In Extensions holds 20 pieces and weighs 50 g. One Genius Weft weighs about the same 50 g on its own. A clip-in set runs from 2 to 8 pieces, from a 2.5" mini front piece to a 10" weft. Piece counts cannot compare those three. Grams can.
Grams also show what a set can do. Enough weight for fullness at your current length is one number. Enough weight to carry a real length change without thin ends is a higher one. Every guide below follows that logic.
Genius Wefts
Each Genius Weft weighs approximately 50 g, roughly a third of a head, and can be cut to fit any width without unravelling. Most clients order two.
-
1 weft (about 50 g): a partial install, a top-up between appointments, or added density only.
-
2 wefts (about 100 g): the standard full install for fine to medium hair.
-
3 wefts (about 150 g): thick or coarse hair, a big length change, or maximum density.
Genius Wefts come in 18", 20" and 22", in Straight or Wavy, and are installed by a licensed stylist with beads and thread. Agree on the number of wefts with your stylist before you order.
Premium Tape-In Extensions
Every pack is 50 g and 20 pieces, whatever the length. The number of packs rises with the length you choose, because longer hair needs more weight to stay full from the blend point to the ends.
-
2 packs (100 g): required for a full head with natural volume at 18" to 20".
-
3 packs (150 g): fullness and length at 22" to 24".
-
4 to 5 packs (200 g to 250 g): XL length and fullness at 24" to 30".
-
5 to 6 packs (250 g to 300 g): XL length and fullness at 30" and up.
Tape-ins are applied by a stylist and re-taped as your hair grows out. With proper care and maintenance, the packs you buy now are the hair you wear for up to 12 months.
Clip-in sets
Premium Clip-In Extensions and Natural Wavy Clip-In Extensions are sold as complete sets in four weights. Each set mixes weft widths, and the larger sets include mini front pieces. Choose by weight, not by piece count. Piece counts below are for Premium Clip-In Extensions. Natural Wavy sets run 2 to 8 pieces.
-
150 g: natural volume. 3 to 4 pieces.
-
200 g: a length look. 4 to 6 pieces.
-
250 g: XL length with full volume and blend. 4 to 8 pieces, including mini front pieces.
-
300 g: the fullest set we make. 6 to 8 pieces, including mini front pieces.
Premium Clip-In Extensions come in 20" to 30" and are custom made to order. Natural Wavy Clip-In Extensions come in 20" to 26". Both are single-donor hair, so wave pattern and tone can vary slightly from set to set. Order the full weight you want in one transaction so the whole set is consistent. No professional installation is needed, and the sets are reusable.
The Halo
The Halo is one piece: 16", 95 g, in Dark Brown, on an adjustable wire that rests just above the crown under your own hair. There is no quantity to choose, only whether one piece suits your hair. It is designed for fine to medium hair that is at least bust length, so your own hair covers the wire. It adds real fullness and a natural length change rather than a dramatic one. If your hair is shorter than bust length or noticeably thicker, message us before ordering.
Luxury Wefts
Luxury Straight Wefts and Luxury Natural Wavy Wefts are our traditional sewn-in wefts. We do not publish a weight per weft, so there is no gram count to give you here. Instead you choose a length from 16" to 30", a shade, and a luster level: Silky / Fine, Balanced / Medium or Dense / Coarse. Luster is matched to the density and finish of your own hair. As a starting point, the Straight weft suits thick hair and the Natural Wavy weft suits thinning hair. For the amount, send us photos and we will tell you what to order for your install.
Volume or length
Each method follows the same pattern: the lowest weight adds volume close to your own length, and each step up carries more length. A longer set has more length to keep full. Add significant length with the weight meant for volume alone and the ends thin out. The blend point shows. For fullness at your current length, the lower weights do the job and wear lighter.
Decide which you want before you choose an amount. Volume close to your own length: 150 g in clip-ins, 2 tape-in packs at 18" to 20", or the Halo. A real length change: 200 g in clip-ins, 3 tape-in packs at 22" to 24", or a third Genius Weft. XL length: 250 g to 300 g in clip-ins, or 4 to 6 tape-in packs depending on length.
Fine, medium and thick hair
Fine hair needs less weight to look full, and it needs the attachment to disappear against the scalp. Two Genius Wefts is the standard install for fine to medium hair. The Genius seam is 0.8 mm thick with no return hair, so nothing presses against the scalp, and it is the flattest weft we offer. The Halo suits fine to medium hair with nothing attached to the roots. Premium Clip-In Extensions are our pick for fine hair and Natural Wavy Clip-In Extensions for thinning hair.
Medium hair can start from the standard amounts in each guide: two Genius Wefts, or the tape-in pack count for your length. In clip-ins, choose 150 g for volume or 200 g for length.
Thick or coarse hair needs more extension hair to blend, because what you add has to match the density of what is already there. Three Genius Wefts is the guide for thick or coarse hair. Luxury Straight Wefts suit thick hair; the luster level should match your own density and finish.
Not sure? Send us photos
Every number above is a starting point. The final answer depends on your density, length, texture and how much change you want, and we can see all of that in three photos. Send us pictures of your natural hair, front, back and ends, taken in daylight, through our contact page. We will come back with the method, amount, length, texture and shade we recommend, before you buy anything. The consultation is free.
When you are ready, every method is in one place at shop all hair.
