Most of the hair we sell is raw human hair that has never been chemically processed. Jet Black 1B is the exception: it is dyed, and we flag it below where it matters. It is the same hair we install in the salon. How you wash it, style it, sleep in it and store it decides how long it lasts. The routine below applies across our line. Where one method needs something different, we say so.
One note before the first wash. Check the shade and texture against your own hair in daylight while the original ties are still in. Once hair has been combed, washed, brushed, cut, worn, colored or altered, it no longer qualifies for a return or store credit. Return requests must be made within 7 days of receipt.
Washing
Use a sulfate-free shampoo and follow with a hydrating mask.
Wash in a downward direction. Keep the hair hanging the way it falls, work shampoo from the roots toward the ends, and rinse the same way. Do not pile the hair on top of your head or scrub it in circles. The same direction applies when you wash clip-ins or the Halo off the head: lay the piece out and wash gently from the top down.
How often depends on the method. Installed hair (Genius Wefts, Luxury Wefts and tape-ins) is washed along with your own hair. We do not publish a wash schedule for installed hair. Ask your stylist, or ask us, what suits your scalp and your install. The Halo is different. It comes off at night, so it is not slept on or brushed every day. Wash it every 15 to 20 wears. Clip-ins are also worn part time, so wash them by wear, not by the calendar. If you are unsure how often, ask us.
Air-dry when you can. Lay the Halo flat to dry. Once the hair is dry, brush from the ends up: clear the ends first, then work toward the roots in sections.
What to avoid
-
Sulfates. Check the label on every shampoo, including the one you already use. That rule applies to every method we sell.
-
Oils and conditioner on tape tabs. If you wear Premium Tape-In Extensions, keep conditioner, masks and any oil away from the tape. Use sulfate-free, oil-free products near the tabs and apply your mask to the lengths only.
-
Color at home. Our raw shades can be toned or lifted, but that is stylist work. The Halo should not be lifted more than two levels. Jet Black 1B has already been color-processed, so tell your stylist before any further color.
Heat styling and protectant
Heat protectant goes on before any hot tool, every time. The Halo can be curled or straightened with protectant at up to 350°F. For the rest of the line, keep the tool at the lowest setting that does the job. The raw options in our Luxury Straight Wefts hold a set curl and return to straight afterwards, because the hair has never been chemically processed.
Sleeping
Braid the hair or wrap it loosely before bed. This applies to every installed method: Genius Wefts, Luxury Wefts and tape-ins. Either one keeps the lengths together while you sleep.
Clip-ins come out before bed, every night. The Halo comes off as well. That is part of why it lasts one to two years with proper care: it is stored overnight, not slept on.
Storage
Store the Halo hanging or loosely coiled in its box. Never fold it.
Store clip-ins flat or hanging in their box. Keep the set together; wave pattern and tone can vary from set to set because the hair is raw.
Maintenance and move-ups
Installed hair grows away from the scalp with your own hair. Move-ups are how a stylist brings it back up.
Genius Wefts are installed with beads and thread by a licensed stylist, and the same weft can be moved up and reinstalled multiple times. Expect 6 to 12 months of wear through those move-ups.
Luxury Straight Wefts and Luxury Natural Wavy Wefts are traditional sewn-in wefts. Your stylist sets the move-up schedule. How long a set lasts depends on your growth, your install and your routine. Ask your stylist what to expect from yours.
Premium Tape-In Extensions are re-taped at move-ups as the tabs grow out. Properly removed, the tape can be reused. With proper care and regular move-ups and re-taping, expect up to 12 months.
When to see your stylist
- For every move-up. Do not let installed hair grow out past the point your stylist set.
- For removal and reinstallation. Genius Wefts, Luxury Wefts and tape-ins go in and come out in the salon, not at home.
- For any color change. Toning or lifting raw hair happens in the salon chair, and the Halo has a two-level limit.
- If anything feels different: a bead, a tab or a track that has shifted, or tension where there was none.
